Goodreads Blurb

Revenge doesn’t wait for permission.

Growing up poor in rural Georgia, Bree Cabbat was warned by her single mother that the world was a dark and scary place. Bree rejected her mother’s fearful outlook, and life has proved her right. Having married into a family with wealth, power, and connections, Bree now has all a woman could ever dream of: a loving lawyer husband, two talented teenage daughters, a new baby boy, a gorgeous home, and every opportunity in the world.

Until the day she awakens and sees a witch peering into her bedroom window—an old gray-haired woman dressed all in black who vanishes as quickly as she appears. It must be a play of the early morning light or the remnant of a waking dream, Bree tells herself, shaking off the bad feeling that overcomes her.

Later that day though, she spies the old woman again, in the parking lot of her daughters’ private school . . . just minutes before Bree’s infant son, asleep in his car seat only a few feet away, vanishes. It happened so quickly—Bree looked away only for a second. There is a note left in his place, warning her that she is being is being watched; if she wants her baby back, she must not call the police or deviate in any way from the instructions that will follow.

The mysterious woman makes contact, and Bree learns she, too, is a mother. Why would another mother do this? What does she want? And why has she targeted Bree? Of course Bree will pay anything, do anything. It’s her child.

To get her baby back, Bree must complete one small—but critical—task. It seems harmless enough, but her action comes with a devastating price, making her complicit in a tangled web of tragedy and shocking secrets that could destroy everything she loves. It is the beginning of an odyssey that will lead Bree to dangerous places, explosive confrontations, and chilling truths.

Bree will do whatever it takes to protect her family—but what if the cost tears their world apart?

Review: My Highland Spy by Victoria Roberts

Goodreads Blurb

This Highland Laird won’t bow to the Crown

Laird Ruairi Sutherland refuses to send his only son away to be educated by the English. And he most definitely will not appear in Edinburgh to pay homage to a liege who has no respect for Scotland. So he does what any laird would do—he lies to the king. The last thing Ruairi expects is a beautiful English governess to appear on his doorstep.

But this lady spy might make him…

Lady Ravenna Walsingham is a seasoned spy who is sent to the savage Highlands to uncover a nefarious plot against the Crown. Playing the part of an English governess—a job easier said than done—she infiltrates the home of Laird Sutherland, a suspected conspirator.

If she doesn’t betray him first

Ravenna soon discovers that the only real threat Sutherland poses is to her heart. But will the proud Highland laird ever forgive her when he discovers the woman he loves is an English spy?

My Review: Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I absolutely fell in love with Ravenna and Ruari. They come from two different backgrounds, but are perfect for each other. I love that Ravenna is a spy who knows how to snoop around and get her job done. But going to Scotland made her strong walls collapse after falling in love with a Highlander who was rugged and strong. I love the whole plot of Victoria’s book. Love that Ravenna was a strong, independent women who didn’t let anyone get in her way. She was trained like a man and was not ashamed of it. She was ladylike when she needed to be and she was rugged and tough when work needed to be done.

I loved that Gaelic was used throughout the book, even though I couldn’t pronounce it. It gave me a taste of what I would be looking forward to when I go to Scotland and find myself a Highlander. Ruari was tough but also deep down he was loving and a caring father. He stood up for what he felt even after learning of who Ravenna really was.

I couldn’t let my guard down every time Angus came along in the book. I would be freaking out too. A wolf as a pet, that is crazy. Torquil is such a lovely boy who loves the outdoors. My heart was broken when Torquil had that accident. Was so happy he made it through and Angus. You find love in unexpected places and with the person that you would have never considered. I do have to say I love this book cover, its delightful. You don’t want to miss this book. Highly recommended.

Review: The Temporary Gentleman by Sebastian Barry

Goodreads Blurb

Jack McNulty is a ‘temporary gentleman’, an Irishman whose commission in the British army in the Second World War was never permanent. In 1957, sitting in his lodgings in Accra, he urgently sets out to write his story. He feels he cannot take one step further, or even hardly a breath, without looking back at all that has befallen him.

He is an ordinary man, both petty and heroic, but he has seen extraordinary things. He has worked and wandered around the world – as a soldier, an engineer, a UN observer – trying to follow his childhood ambition to better himself. And he has had a strange and tumultuous marriage. Mai Kirwan was a great beauty of Sligo in the 1920s, a vivid mind, but an elusive and mysterious figure too. Jack married her, and shared his life with her, but in time she slipped from his grasp.

A heart-breaking portrait of one man’s life – of his demons and his lost love – The Temporary Gentleman is, ultimately, a novel about Jack’s last bid for freedom, from the savage realities of the past and from himself.

My Review: Rated 4 out of 5 stars

It was a happy/sad story. To be at war most of your married life, while your partner is destroying her life and taking out her anger on her younger daughter is heartbreaking. This was a story of a love at first sight and a sad story of a women who kept to herself and slowly took her own life away by drinking her sorrows.

The book was written in a way that the characters were talking to you. At times it felt like it was a poem. It was a never ending roller coaster. I kept on hoping that the love that once was there would make them strong and be a real family again. I also felt the pain that most of the women who were left on there own with their children struggling every day.

My Review: 5 out of 5 stars

Wow, this book had me going. I didn’t know what to expect as I kept reading. I loved the whole plot. This was the first time I read a book written by Jade and I truly loved it. I loved the romance between good and evil. I didn’t expect the book to end the way it did. The characters really surprised me. I didn’t expect the characters to help each other out in the end. This book was well written and each page kept you wanting more. I loved the cover of this book.

Review: The Pink Suit by Nicole Mary Kelby

Goodreads Blurb

On November 22, 1963, the First Lady accompanied her husband to Dallas, Texas dressed in a pink Chanel-style suit that was his favorite. Much of her wardrobe, including the pink suit, came from the New York boutique Chez Ninon where a young seamstress, an Irish immigrant named Kate, worked behind the scenes to meticulously craft the memorable outfits.

While the two never met, Kate knew every tuck and pleat needed to create the illusion of the First Lady’s perfection. When the pink suit became emblematic, Kate’s already fragile world–divided between the excess and artistry of Chez Ninon and the traditional values of her insular neighborhood–threatened to rip apart.

Moving from the back rooms of Chez Ninon to the steps of Air Force One, The Pink Suit is an enchanting, unforgettable novel about hope and heartbreak, and what became of the American Dream.

My Review: Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I won this book from goodreads. This story is about the seamstress who sewed the iconic pink suit that Mrs. Kennedy was wearing when her husband President JFK was killed. I was looking forward to reading this book. The death of JFK and the distress his wife experienced was heartbreaking to the whole world. She refused to remove that suit. She wanted to show the world what they did to her husband.

I liked that this book focused on the Irish seamstress who was so fascinated with Mrs. Kennedy. She did everything possible for her to meet her and be able to make her outfits. It gave her a way of being part of her life. I loved the history that was brought into this book. I didn’t know that there was an explosion in a telephone company. I also researched Fredomland amusement park. I was amazed on how big it was and the history of the amusement park. I also enjoyed this book because I love fashion. It was great to hear a story from the person who did all the sewing, while to others she wasn’t important. Her talent will never be forgotten. I highly recommend this book.

I write Regency Era romance and the first six books in my Outcasts series will be published by Kensington Press. DANGEROUS, BARBAROUS, & SCANDALOUS are already out and NOTORIOUS will be out in 2020, OUTRAGEOUS in 2021.

Before I began writing I spent time as a dock worker, a reader for the blind, a criminal prosecutor, and I taught American History on the college level for five years. My last job was running an 8-bedroom bed and breakfast, a subject I will never write about…

I like historical fiction because I enjoy escaping into the past when I relax. And I write romance because I love a happy ending and everything that happens along the way.

I came to writing late in life and I feel like I have to write fast to catch up! I work every day looking out over the Sangre de Cristo mountains and my free range birds and dogs!

When I’m not writing I’m playing with my animals, knitting, DIYing, crocheting, sewing, or watching old movies.
