Goodreads Blurb

When the Buckeye City Police Department receives a disturbing letter from a person threatening to “kill thirteen innocents and one guilty” in “an act of atonement for the needless death of an innocent man,” Detective Izzy Jaynes has no idea what to think. Are fourteen citizens about to be slaughtered in an unhinged act of retribution? As the investigation unfolds, Izzy realizes that the letter writer is deadly serious, and she turns to her friend Holly Gibney for help.

Meanwhile, controversial and outspoken women’s rights activist Kate McKay is embarking on a multi-state lecture tour, drawing packed venues of both fans and detractors. Someone who vehemently opposes Kate’s message of female empowerment is targeting her and disrupting her events. At first, no one is hurt, but the stalker is growing bolder, and Holly is hired to be Kate’s bodyguard—a challenging task with a headstrong employer and a determined adversary driven by wrath and his belief in his own righteousness.

Featuring a riveting cast of characters both old and new, including world-famous gospel singer Sista Bessie and an unforgettable villain addicted to murder, these twinned narratives converge in a chilling and spectacular conclusion—a feat of storytelling only Stephen King could pull off.

Thrilling, wildly fun, and outrageously engrossing, Never Flinch is one of King’s richest and most propulsive novels.

Review: Anne Frank Exhibition

The Anne Frank Exhibition book is the perfect keepsake. It walks you through the life of the Frank family when they were young, what happened during the time they were hidden, and the terrible deaths of Anne Frank, her sister, and mother. It includes images of real artifacts that were also available at the exhibit and the reconstructed Annex. This book gives you a front row seat to the life of the Frank family and the horrors of the Holocaust. I recommend you see the Anne Frank Exhibition in NYC before it closed in October. You will receive an audio to provide feedback to everything you see in the exhibit.

Dreaming in Moonlight when your sleep is filled with passion and your nightmares are real.

My Review: Rated 5 out of 5 stars

What an amazing story. My mind was grasped the moment I opened this book. I love ghost stories, and this was written so smoothly together like the perfect storyteller. I get nightmares all the time, so I know what it feels like after you wake up from a dream and remember every detail. I loved both main characters and loved how the characters remembered each other, which was quite weird and would freak anyone out in those circumstances. It is a very short book but is built with a huge bang. Come and check it out.

Anne Frank’s The Diary of a Young Girl has captivated and inspired readers for decades. Published posthumously by her bereaved father, Anne’s journal, written while she and her family were in hiding during World War II, has become one of the central texts of the Jewish experience during the Holocaust, as well as a work of literary genius.

With the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, the Frank family’s life is turned inside out, blow by blow, restriction by restriction. Prejudice, loss, and terror run rampant, and Anne is forced to bear witness as ordinary people become monsters, and children and families are caught up in the inescapable tide of violence.

In the midst of impossible danger, Anne, audacious and creative and fearless, discovers who she truly is. With a wisdom far beyond her years, she becomes a writer who will go on to change the world as we know it.

Critically acclaimed author Alice Hoffman weaves a lyrical and heart-wrenching story of the way the world closes in on the Frank family from the moment the Nazis invade the Netherlands until they are forced into hiding, bringing Anne to bold, vivid life. Based on extensive research and published in cooperation with the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, When We Flew Away is an extraordinary and moving tour de force.

“Adding new poignance to a story whose ending we already knew, Alice Hoffman has deftly recreated the child Anne Frank with all her wit, mischief, and uncertainties. This fictionalized account of the increasingly desperate years that preceded the famous diary breaks readers’ hearts one more time. But it reminds us of how important it is to remember and honor all that was lost.” — Lois Lowry, Newbery Award-winning author of Number the Stars

Author Biography

Alice Hoffman is the author of more than thirty works of fiction, including The World That We Knew; The Marriage of Opposites; The Red Garden; The Museum of Extraordinary Things; The Dovekeepers; Here on Earth, an Oprah’s Book Club selection; and the Practical Magic series, including Practical

Review: The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

Goodreads Blurb

Amber Patterson is fed up. She’s tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more—a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted.

To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne—a socialite and philanthropist—and her real-estate mogul husband, Jackson, are a couple straight out of a fairy tale.

Amber’s envy could eat her alive . . . if she didn’t have a plan. Amber uses Daphne’s compassion and caring to insinuate herself into the family’s life—the first step in a meticulous scheme to undermine her. Before long, Amber is Daphne’s closest confidante, traveling to Europe with the Parrishes and their lovely young daughters, and growing closer to Jackson. But a skeleton from her past may undermine everything that Amber has worked towards, and if it is discovered, her well-laid plan may fall to pieces.

With shocking turns and dark secrets that will keep you guessing until the very end, The Last Mrs. Parrish is a fresh, juicy, and utterly addictive thriller from a diabolically imaginative talent.

My Review: Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Be careful what you wish for!! The grass is not always greener on the other side.

It is a story of a desperate woman yearning to be rich at whatever cause, a psycho abuser and a woman trapped with the most evil man. Who will have the upper hand?

Amber Patterson is desperate to marry a man with status and money. She makes friends with Daphne Parrish yearning to replace her in her marriage with Jackson Parrish. You will go down a rabbit hole with these characters and will be shocked at the real truth behind closed doors.

At the beginning of the story, I wasn’t very interested in this book. When the story moved to Daphne’s take on how her life with Jackson was far from perfect, I got hooked on the story. I couldn’t wait to see what would happen to Jackson and Amber. They both belonged together. I was so happy at the turn of events. Revenge was perfection in this story. They both got what they deserved. This story gave you a front row seat at how abusers take control in every aspect of a woman’s life. They use verbal and sexual abuse and fear to take full control. This story, though fiction, told the story of many women who are in similar relationships.

Review: Fashion First by Diane Keaton

Blurb

A fashion icon in her own right, Keaton amusingly revisits and reflects on some of her favorite and not-so-favorite fashion moments over the decades, from childhood homemade outfits to red carpet ensembles and street style experiments she tried from the 1960s until today.

My Review: Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Diane Keaton is a fashion icon. She rocks hats, boots, belts, and her most iconic outfit, the suit. I enjoyed seeing how her fashion style has evolved throughout the years. As a fashionsista who likes to put outfits together regardless of what’s on style, I connect even more with Diane. I love vintage outfits and connected so much with her outfits during those eras. Kudos to Diane for pushing boundaries and wearing what makes her comfortable and happy. Just like Diane’s mom, who used to take her photos, my mom takes my fashionista photos. A hat can dress any outfit, plus an easy fix for a bad hair day. I got to meet Diane in 2017, I loved her boots, and we connected talking about fashion. I highly recommend you look through the most iconic outfits that Diane Keaton will be remembered by.

AUTHOR BIO:

Brooke Gilbert is a Tennessee native, a microbiology graduate of the University of Tennessee, and a border collie mom. She is, as you may have already guessed, a hopeless romantic and a lover of Jane Austen. When she isn’t writing, she works as a jewelry designer, an audiobook narrator, and a graphic designer. Her writing features characters with autoimmune disorders, something she deals with herself. She believes it is important for these types of characters to be seen in modern literature and started writing so she could see someone like herself in literature. She is considered a medical mystery and has several rare autoimmune disorders. These disorders caused her to withdraw from Physician Assistant School, but she is happy to be pursuing her dreams of designing, creating, and writing. She thanks God for leading her heart on this new path and recites “perhaps this is the moment for which you were created” in times of doubt (Esther 4:14).

She loves watching classic films (thrillers and romantic comedies, too), reading, playing the ukulele, painting, dancing, Pilates, and spending time with her dog, family, and friends. One of her favorite quotes is from Flashdance: “When you give up on your dreams, you die.” She believes that if you’re waiting to pursue your dreams, stop waiting and start doing. Your time is now. And may you never stop being a hopeless romantic. Contrary to popular belief, it’s a very good quality. She’s still looking for her Mr. Darcy. Review: A Thousand Years by Christina Perri

Goodreads Blurb

I have spent every day waiting for you.
Darling, don’t be afraid.
I have loved you for a thousand years.
I’ll love you for a thousand more.

A child ventures out into the world, one bold step at a time, as her mother looks on, both of them brave in embracing change and steadfast in their ever-evolving love. In this ode from parent to child, Christina Perri teams up with New York Times bestselling illustrator Joy Hwang Ruiz to turn her hit song “A Thousand Years” into a tender reminder that a mother’s love is forever.

My Review: Rated 5 out of 5 stars

One of the most iconic songs that was used in the Twilight movies is now part of the most adorable children’s books. Christina Perri is a singer and songwriter. She is a mom and wrote the perfect book to gift to mom’s. I loved that she used parts of her iconic song to tell this beautiful story between the love of a mother for her child. The illustrations were whimsical and perfectly matched the text. I enjoyed the rainbow scenery used throughout the book. You feel like you are in the clouds with so much love.

Review: A Perk of Trouble by Tonya Kappes

Goodreads Blurb

When a nationally known author arrives in town to headline a prestigious writer’s retreat, Roxanne Bloom is more focused on crafting perfect lattes than getting caught in his plot twists. But when the author turns up dead—in a scene straight from one of his books—Roxy’s peaceful coffee-slinging days are once again interrupted.

With the town buzzing and the retreat guests under suspicion, Roxy dusts off her sleuthing skills to uncover the truth hidden between the pages. Because in Honey Springs, secrets percolate fast—and someone’s trying to cover theirs with murder.

A Perk of Trouble is a heartwarming, twist-filled mystery steeped in Southern charm and brewed with all the things you love—fur babies, friendship, fresh-baked treats, and a heroine who never gives up.

My Review: Rated  5 out of 5 stars

A writers retreat turns deadly when two authors are murdered by a writer out for revenge. How far would you go for fame? Will you steal another authors plot or ideas in order to gain fame?

As a reader who has attended many author events, it’s always brings me joy to get a chance to meet authors and publishers and make new friends. This writers retreat sounded like a fun filled event where writers can learn new writing tips and get a chance to meet new friends and meet agents. Unfortunately, an author is found dead exactly how one of his characters died in his book. And Tonya didn’t stop at one murder, but two. I didn’t see that one coming.

I really loved the plot of this story and how it took place at a writers retreat. I love how Roxanne named her coffees and deserts with book theme titles. That was a fun idea that fit perfectly for a writers event. Roxanne walked right into danger, but her sleuthing helped her solve the murders. This was a fun read for readers who enjoy book events and get a chance to unravel the murders with Roxanne.
