Review: Slappy Birthday to You by R.L. Stine

Goodreads Blurb

Goosebumps available soon on Disney+! The evil dummy comes to life to tell his own twisted tales and scary stories! It’s bad enough Ian Barker has to spend his twelfth birthday with his sister and their two annoying cousins. The four of them can’t ever hang out without getting into trouble. Vinnie and Jonny always want to play with Ian’s stuff. They take extra turns and break everything they touch. Even Ian’s new birthday presents are up for grabs. But when Ian gets a Slappy dummy from his dad, things go from bad to worse. When Slappy’s in charge, you don’t fight over him, he fights over you!

My Review: Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Mr. Stine knows how to spook even an adult. I just don’t like the idea of a talking dummy coming to life, let alone a whole bunch of dolls. Another perfectly written story that will scare anyone. Becareful of your next birthday present because it might come to life.

About the book:

A deliciously witty and inspiring memoir by One Tree Hill star Bethany Joy Lenz about her decade in a cult and her quest to break free.

In the early 2000s, after years of hard work and determination to breakthrough as an actor, Bethany Joy Lenz was finally cast as one of the leads on the hit drama One Tree Hill. Her career was about to take off, but her personal life was slowly beginning to unravel. What none of the show’s millions of fans knew, hidden even from her costars, was her secret double life in a cult.

An only child who often had to fend for herself and always wanted a place to belong, Lenz found the safe haven she’d been searching for in a Bible study group with other Hollywood creatives. However, the group soon morphed into something more sinister—a slowly woven web of manipulation, abuse, and fear under the guise of a church covenant called The Big House Family. Piece by piece, Lenz began to give away her autonomy, ultimately relocating to the Family’s Pacific Northwest compound, overseen by a domineering minister who would convince Lenz to marry one of his sons and steadily drained millions of her TV income without her knowledge. Family “minders” assigned to her on set, “Maoist struggle session”–inspired meetings in the basement of a filthy house, and regular counseling with “Leadership” were just part of the tactics used to keep her loyal.

Only when she became a mother did Lenz find the courage to leave and spare her child from a similar fate. After nearly a decade (and with the unlikely help of a One Tree Hill superfan), she finally managed to escape the family’s grip and begin to heal from the deep trauma that forever altered her relationship with God and her understanding of faith.

Written with powerful honesty and dark humor, Dinner for Vampires is an inspiring story about the importance of identity and understanding what you believe.

Zer0 idea what Grant will do to me now that he knows I lied
After years apart, Grant and I finally made love again. It was intoxicating, the perfect blend of pleasure and passion. But now that he knows my secret, I’m at his mercy. I’m addicted to him—I didn’t anticipate the bond between us to be so Carnal.

My Review: Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Review: Crazed Episode Three by Alana Albertson

Goodreads Blurb

Se7en Deadly SEALs are not the heroes I thought they were

6ix shots of rum I had the night I was violated

5ive months I hid so no one would discover my secret

Four times I visited Grant in the hospital to attempt to tell him the truth

Thre3 jobs I worked while I was alone to protect the truth

Two days my angel lived on this earth

One plunge of my stiletto heel permanently marked my attacker

Zero chance he can run now that I’ve discovered his identity

I didn’t reinvent myself to seek revenge, my goal was to exonerate my brother. I will still spend my last breath working for his freedom. But first, I will get mine. He must pay. I’ve lost control, I’ve snapped. I’m crazed.

My Review: Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Oh boy, this book is getting hotter. Mia’s hurt and secret has been revealed. Grant definitely wasn’t expecting this. I was pissed when Joaquins lawyer was being a sneaky jerk. It is hard for a mother to lose her child. Can Mia find happiness through all this darkness?

Review: Chronic: Episode Two by Alana Albertson

Goodreads Blurb

Se7en Deadly Navy SEALs—our loyalty to each other knows no bounds

6ix months since I slammed the door on my ex Mia

5ive years I’ve known my best friend, Joaquín, now wasting away in jail

4our days since this stripper named Ksenya entered my life

Thre3 ways Ksenya reminds me of Mia: her lips, her scent, her smile

Two years since Mia left me during my darkest hour

One naked bombshell asleep in my bed trying to trick me

Zer0 doubt in my mind that I’m wrong

She wants to get wild? I will fulfill her every fantasy. I control the game now, not her. It will end when I say it ends. I’m a Navy SEAL, and I will be the last one standing.

My Review: Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This mini series just keeps getting better. I can not believe how this story keeps on unraveling on the mystery. I hope Mia gets revenge for all the hurt that jerk caused.

Goodreads Blurb

Signed to a major recording deal at just 12 years old, JoJo catapulted to the top of the pop-and-R&B-infused charts in the mid 2000’s. The relatability of her youth and the appeal of her cool-girl mystique earned her millions of fans around the world. JoJo was an undeniable superstar and pop culture fixture, spanning roles in major studio films, omnipresence on Top 40 radio, frequenting magazine covers, and appearing on national TV. Then, out of the blue, everything came to a halt and JoJo seemingly stepped out of the spotlight, leaving many fans to  What happened to JoJo?

In OVER THE INFLUENCE, JoJo holds nothing back as she brings her against-the-odds story of adversity and triumph to center stage. From being raised by parents who were both battling addiction and depression, to emerging victorious in a never-ending lawsuit with her record label, to putting the fragmented pieces of herself together after a maddening period of rebellion and self-betrayal, she takes the reader through the turbulent years that led her to where she is releasing new music under her own imprint, performing in shows and festivals around the world, headlining a Broadway show, and beyond.  In this raw, behind-the-scenes look at her life, both personal and professional, JoJo’s unflinching vulnerability allows readers to connect with her on a whole new level through stories of success, heartbreak, redemption, and resilience.

More than a victory lap from an artist with over two decades in an ever-changing entertainment industry, OVER THE INFLUENCE is an unapologetic rallying cry to anyone who’s ever  been terrified to fail and still said, “Count me in.”
