Book Event With Liv Constantine at B&N in Milford CT

It was wonderful that I got to meet the two sisters, Liv Constantine, while they are touring for their newly released book, The Next Mrs. Parrish. I’m currently reading The Last Mrs. Parrish, my review will be coming soon.

Goodreads Blurb

Amber Patterson is fed up. She’s tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more—a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted.

To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne—a socialite and philanthropist—and her real-estate mogul husband, Jackson, are a couple straight out of a fairy tale.

Amber’s envy could eat her alive . . . if she didn’t have a plan. Amber uses Daphne’s compassion and caring to insinuate herself into the family’s life—the first step in a meticulous scheme to undermine her. Before long, Amber is Daphne’s closest confidante, traveling to Europe with the Parrishes and their lovely young daughters, and growing closer to Jackson. But a skeleton from her past may undermine everything that Amber has worked towards, and if it is discovered, her well-laid plan may fall to pieces.

With shocking turns and dark secrets that will keep you guessing until the very end, The Last Mrs. Parrish is a fresh, juicy, and utterly addictive thriller from a diabolically imaginative talent.

Goodreads Blurb

Amber Patterson Parrish has come a long way from being an invisible wallflower. Her hard work and immaculate planning have paid off now that she’s a prominent socialite, but that doesn’t mean there haven’t been bumps along the way. Less than a year since her husband Jackson’s tax-evasion scandal, Amber is still at the top of the Bishops Harbor community pecking order, free to do as she wishes while Jackson sits in prison. But that freedom is quickly coming to an end. With Jackson getting released from prison, Amber’s time—and money—is vanishing.

Meanwhile, Daphne Parrish left Bishops Harbor after her divorce from Jackson Parrish, swearing she would never go back. But when one of her daughters runs away from home, desperate to see her father, Daphne agrees to return for the summer to allow him supervised visits. Once out of prison, Jackson swears he’s a changed man, but Daphne knows all too well that he can’t be trusted.

When a ghost from Amber’s past emerges looking for revenge, the three of them find unlikely allies in one another, but who is playing who? When all is said and done, they’ll have to fight tooth and nail for everything they have left in this zero-sum game.

With shocking turns and entertaining characters, The Next Mrs. Parrish will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about duplicity and betrayal.

Review: Seven Days of Us by Francesca Hornak

Goodreads Blurb

It’s Christmas, and for the first time in years the entire Birch family will be under one roof. Even Emma and Andrew’s elder daughter—who is usually off saving the world—will be joining them at Weyfield Hall, their aging country estate. But Olivia, a doctor, is only coming home because she has to. Having just returned from treating an epidemic abroad, she’s been told she must stay in quarantine for a week…and so too should her family.

For the next seven days, the Birches are locked down, cut off from the rest of humanity—and even decent Wi-Fi—and forced into each other’s orbits. Younger, unabashedly frivolous daughter Phoebe is fixated on her upcoming wedding, while Olivia deals with the culture shock of being immersed in first-world problems.

As Andrew sequesters himself in his study writing scathing restaurant reviews and remembering his glory days as a war correspondent, Emma hides a secret that will turn the whole family upside down.

In close proximity, not much can stay hidden for long, and as revelations and long-held tensions come to light, nothing is more shocking than the unexpected guest who’s about to arrive…

My Review: Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I felt like a piece of me ended with this book. I couldn’t put the book down. Each page lead you to secrets of the Birch family and how, as a family, they overcame all that life through at them. A novel full of life, love, courage, and forgiveness will tear at your heart and make you a part of the family. Secrets in family usually don’t stay a secret, and as they unravel, it will tear the whole family up. But how they deal and accept the challenges and secrets will give the family strength, love, and courage to love one another in good times and bad times. Highly recommend you be part of the Birch family and there quarantine.

Review: Return to Silver Bay by Lara Van Hulzen

Goodreads Blurb

Maggie wants to bury her past and move on.
Josh has other plans, and moving on without her isn’t one of them.

Maggie Mitchell returns to her hometown of Silver Bay expecting to bury her father, her past, and move on. But when Josh Harden, her high school sweetheart, shows up, her world gets turned around.

Drawn to Josh, but afraid of their history, Maggie’s head tells her she can handle things alone, but her heart says otherwise.

Recognizing a second chance when he sees one, Josh is determined to win Maggie’s heart once more and show her that she can trust love and begin again.

My Review: Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This novel is about a second-chance romance that will tug at your heartstrings. It’s a story of high school sweethearts who part ways due to Maggie’s relationship with her father. Can Maggie move past her issues with her father? Maggie’s father passes away, and she returns to her hometown to sell her parents’ home. As Maggie goes through her parents’ things, she finds letters that will change her life forever. She investigates what these letters mean and how they affected her father’s actions. Maggie unravels the hidden secret her parents kept from her and finds new friendships, family, and a future with Josh. It’s a strong story filled with many emotions and a character who is afraid to be happy to keep the relationship she had with her father.

The story was short and easy to follow. The only thing I would have changed is to provide a timeline throughout the story. The part about Josh’s accident, the proposal, and the marriage felt rushed. I don’t know if months or a year passed between these events. The characters are well-developed, and the story tugs on readers’ emotions.

Out Now: Healing Magic & Playboys by Lauren Connolly

Can be read as a stand alone.

Ava Bellerose may use men to charge up her healing magic, but that doesn’t mean she wants to date one. She’s fine living life as a single witch working a day job as a college librarian and spending nights as the masked performer Pearl at The Jewelry Box. Every routine on the stage means more magic power in the bank, courtesy of the customers craving her body. One man in particular can’t seem to get enough. Ava finds perverse pleasure in ignoring his money and denying him anything more than a distant dance with zero eye contact. His admiration is intoxicating and the magical boost is all she needs from him. But the guy becomes impossible to ignore when he shows up outside of her apartment.

Their meeting must be fate…

Sammy Reyes can’t believe his luck. While visiting a new build site for work, he spots a heart-shaped behind and a pouty set of lips he’d recognize anywhere. From her hostile greeting, the gorgeous witch might be the one to bury him at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. But Sammy has spent his whole life charming people, and he’s determined to prove himself as more than a faceless fuel tank of lust. Especially when Ava makes it abundantly clear his money has no sway on her affections.

To woo the librarian, the water elemental will have to dive deeper than his normal surface-level charisma. But just as Sammy starts to show the vulnerable heart behind his confident mask, Ava’s two lives collide in the worst way. Can she risk stepping out from behind her own protective walls, or will she leave him wanting?

Review: The Lady Travelers Guide to Larceny with a Dashing Stranger

Goodreads Blurb

She must secure her future

A lady should never be obliged to think of matters financial! But when Lady Wilhelmina Bascombe’s carefree, extravagant lifestyle vanishes with the demise of her husband, her only hope lies in retrieving a family treasure—a Renaissance masterpiece currently in the hands of a cunning art collector in Venice. Thankfully, the Lady Travelers Society has orchestrated a clever plan to get Willie to Europe, leading a tour of mothers and daughters…and one curiously attentive man.

He must reclaim his heritage

Dante Augustus Montague’s one passion has long been his family’s art collection. He’s finally tracked a long-lost painting to the enchanting Lady Bascombe. Convinced that the canvas had been stolen, he will use any means to reclaim his birthright—including deception. But how long before pretend infatuation gives way to genuine desire?

Now they’re rivals for a prize that will change everything

Willie and Dante know they’re playing with fire in the magical moonlit city. Their common quest could compromise them both…or lead them to happily-ever-after.

My Review: Rated 4 out of 5 stars

What a great story to continue with the series. I loved all the drama and girl power throughout the book. The sparks between Dante and Willie were so humorous and romantic. One painting brought two strangers together with love, adventure, and happiness. I loved the wonderful adventures they all had throughout the book. The descriptions of their travels were great, which made me feel like I was part of the travelers.

Review: Bad Kitty: Kitten Trouble by Nick Bruel

Goodreads Blurb

There’s terrible news in the neighborhood next to Kitty’s!

A conflict there is growing worse and worse. It started as an argument and has now turned into a full-fledged fight. Worst of all: The cat shelter has been destroyed.

Kitty’s family decides it’s time to do something to help. They have an idea to foster as many displaced kittens as possible.

Kitty won’t mind, right?

Well . . . not exactly. Kitty does seem to mind.
She minds A LOT.

Will our favorite bad-tempered friend learn to share her space, her food, and **GASP!** her toys?

Find out in this hilarious and poignant addition to the Bad Kitty series.

My Review: Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Another hilarious story with Bad Kitty. This book teaches children to share and be happy with what you have. Others or not so fortunate. We should seek to help those in need. It also teaches forgiveness. The illustrations were great. I felt it was a little repetitive on some occasions. Overall, children will enjoy it.

Review: The Address by Fiona Davis

Goodreads Blurb

After a failed apprenticeship, working her way up to head housekeeper of a posh London hotel is more than Sara Smythe ever thought she’d make of herself. But when a chance encounter with Theodore Camden, one of the architects of the grand New York apartment house The Dakota, leads to a job offer, her world is suddenly awash in possibility—no mean feat for a servant in 1884. The opportunity to move to America, where a person can rise above one’s station. The opportunity to be the female manager of The Dakota, which promises to be the greatest apartment house in the world. And the opportunity to see more of Theo, who understands Sara like no one else…and is living in The Dakota with his wife and three young children.

My Review: Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This novel takes the reader to a front-row seat of family drama. I loved the history mentioned in this historical fiction novel. The story occurs at the iconic New York apartment house called the Dakota. I love visiting mansions and learning about the architecture and the people that lived there. This book details how the house was built, and most of the story takes place in 1885, when the building had just opened. The other part of this story that intrigued me was learning more about the insane asylum at Blackwell’s Island, where Nellie Bly, a journalist, stayed for ten days. She published an article on how brutal the asylum was and how many of the women there didn’t have any mental issues.

The story was slow halfway through the start of the book. When Sara Smythe started to feel ill and forgetful, I became interested in the novel. The author did a great job creating Sara’s character, but the other main characters needed to be explained in more detail to strengthen the story. The story takes place in 1884, Sara’s story, and then it goes to 1985, where you learn about Bailey Camden. This novel teaches the reader to be careful of who you trust. There was a lot of deceit between the characters. Sara had the worst time in NYC because she was too trustworthy of people. I felt terrible that poor Sara had to go through terrible moments in her life by paying for the blame of others. Bailey’s story digs into the past. She wants to learn more about her family and Sara Smythe, the murderess of the Architecture Theodore Camden. Family sometimes hide secrets to keep their reputation intact.

The Echo on the Water
by JA Huss
(Sacred Trinity, #2)
Publication date: July 25, 2024
Genres: Adult, Romance, Suspense

Synopsis:

Rosie Harlow is desperately seeking… well, she’s not sure. A romance would be nice but so would a dinner conversation with her pre-teen son. Too bad her boy is way too busy growing up to pay his mama any attention. Rosie never meant to swear off men and she’s not frigid—you don’t become a single mom at fifteen by being frigid—but this dry spell of hers has gotten out of hand and something must be done.

Enter Amon Parrish. Back in high school Amon was voted most likely to get caught with his pants down. He was a trouble maker. The quintessential bad boy. But twelve years away from home, traveling the world and working with Collin Creed doing super-secret (and somewhat illegal) things, changed all that. These days Amon Parrish is a brand-new, stand-up man.

And, to Rosie’s surprise, a romantic man as well. Because he has decided to court her. And this is not just any ordinary courting, either. It’s… well, a page ripped right out of a bodice ripper.

But everyone in Disciple, West Virginia has a secret in their past.

Even the cheerful, perpetually optimistic, and seemingly innocent, Rosie Harlow.

The Echo on the Water is a swooning plate of small-town fiction served up with a side of spice. It honors the themes of friends to lovers, found family, and is filled with bigger-than-life, morally-grey characters against a backdrop of the weird and wonderful.
