ARC Release Day August 2019: The Whisper Man by Alex North

Goodreads Blurb

In this dark, suspenseful thriller, Alex North weaves a multi-generational tale of a father and son caught in the crosshairs of an investigation to catch a serial killer preying on a small town.

After the sudden death of his wife, Tom Kennedy believes a fresh start will help him and his young son Jake heal. A new beginning, a new house, a new town. Featherbank.

But the town has a dark past. Twenty years ago, a serial killer abducted and murdered five residents. Until Frank Carter was finally caught, he was nicknamed “The Whisper Man,” for he would lure his victims out by whispering at their windows at night.

Just as Tom and Jake settle into their new home, a young boy vanishes. His disappearance bears an unnerving resemblance to Frank Carter’s crimes, reigniting old rumors that he preyed with an accomplice. Now, detectives Amanda Beck and Pete Willis must find the boy before it is too late, even if that means Pete has to revisit his great foe in prison: The Whisper Man.

And then Jake begins acting strangely. He hears a whispering at his window…

My Review

Shhh!! If you’re awake and stay quiet at night, you might just hear the Whisper Man calling your name.

“If you leave a door half open, soon you’ll hear the whispers spoken.
If you play outside alone, soon you won’t be going home.
If your window’s left unlatched, you’ll hear him tapping at the glass.
If you’re lonely, sad, and blue, the Whisper Man will come for you.”

A frightening, nail biting thriller until the very end. The Whisper Man was infamous for the killings of five children, 20 years before. Now, a little boy goes missing . A copy cat was out there doing the same acts that the Whisper Man used to do. Jake is such a special and smart kid. He couldn’t make friends, but had imaginary friends that he would talk to and play with. Jake and Tom had a tough time after the death of Jake’s mother. A new start lead them to the creepiest house in town filled with hidden secrets. After the move, everything started to go down hill. The readers learn three different father and son relationships. Sometimes, the one who is suppose to protect you can leave you with lasting scars and fears. Like father like son. The author did a spectacular job bringing this story together. It was a twisting story that revealed everything at its time. I dare you to read The Whisper Man, you won’t be disappointing. I can’t wait to see this in theaters. Summer 2019, book bragging thriller. I rated 5 out of 5 stars.

Field of Prey by John Sanford

Goodreads Blurb

The night after the fourth of July, Layton Carlson Jr., of Red Wing, Minnesota, finally got lucky. And unlucky.

He’d picked the perfect spot to lose his virginity to his girlfriend, an abandoned farmyard in the middle of cornfields: nice, private, and quiet. The only problem was . . . something smelled bad—like, really bad. He mentioned it to a county deputy he knew, and when the cop took a look, he found a body stuffed down a cistern. And then another, and another.

By the time Lucas Davenport was called in, the police were up to fifteen bodies and counting. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, when Lucas began to investigate, he made some disturbing discoveries of his own. The victims had been killed over a great many years, one every summer, regular as clockwork. How could this have happened without anybody noticing?

Because one thing was for sure: the killer had to live close by. He was probably even someone they saw every day. . . .

My Review

Absolutely a book full of surprises that will keep the reader’s on their toes. This was my first novel from John and I was wonderfully surprised that he writes novels that rips your heart in pieces, while he makes sure he brings justice to the victims. I just couldn’t wait until R.A was finally caught. I wasn’t sure how many more deaths I could have endured, without throwing my book across the room. I fell out of my seat when I saw the true picture of R.A and Horn. That was truly unbelievable. If you love thrillers with psycho serial killers, then look no further. You will be mind blown. I rated 5 out of 5 stars.

At the “Readers for Life” Literacy Autographing, hundreds of romance authors meet with and sign books for fans in this two-hour event, with the proceeds from book sales going to literacy organizations.

In 2018, Romance Writers of America raised more than $38,000 to benefit ProLiteracy and the Literacy Coaltion of Colorado. Since 1990, RWA has raised over $1 million for literacy organizations!

According to ProLiteracy, the amount donated from the “Readers for Life” Literacy Autographing over the years has helped 40,000 adults learn to read, and in 2017, ProLiteracy recognized this accomplishment by honoring RWA with their President’s Award. Thanks to all who have helped the organization contribute to this worthy cause.

“RWA’s donations to ProLiteracy have helped break the cycle of poverty, elevate workforce skills, and improve the quality of life for adults worldwide,” says Kevin Morgan, president and CEO of ProLiteracy. “ProLiteracy is thankful to the authors, readers, publishers, and literacy partners who have supported us and helped RWA to improve so many lives through literacy.”

Foretold (Prophecy of Light # 3) by R.J. Crayton

Goodreads Blurb

Kady has rescued her aunt from the dark mage Zygam, but now her friend is his ally.

Kady must learn what makes Zygam tick in order to defeat him when he attacks in just 10 days. As she learns more about the mage who has hunted her for 10 years, Kady realizes defeating him may be harder than she thought. Will the secrets she unearths make this battle impossible for her to fight?

My Review

Truly a plot twist for Kady. Her uncle had a huge secret that changed how she felt about her uncle. Will she give her uncle what he wants, in order to release someone very important to her? We’ll have to find out. I thought this was the last book, but it didn’t end as of yet. This book went into depth on Kady’s past and what actually happened to her family and the reason towards blocking her magic. It will leave you thinking who truly is looking for power. As the reader reads they’ll unravel the story and will think who should Kady truly trust? Advice from Master Yaritza , “sometimes secrets must be kept in order to defend what is right”. I rated 5 out of 5 stars.

Unleashed (Prophecy of Light # 2) by R.J. Crayton

Goodreads Blurb

Kady must learn to unleash the magic trapped inside her if she is to help the mage Pylum rescue her aunt.

As Kady learns her way around the Temple of Light and takes classes to help her understand magic, she makes new friends like Jasper and learns more about the mysterious mage who helped her in book one: Akilah.

Will Kady be able to unleash her power, and what else might she find when her bonds are broken?

My Review

Another great continuation to this wonderful series. In this book the reader gets to see the frustrations that Kady goes through trying to figure out her magic, while wanting to release all her power in order for her to save her aunt. There’s a lot of mystery and trust issues throughout the story. You just don’t know who’s really telling the truth. I was so thrilled that I’m part of this book. I’m Master Yaritza the healer, that’s awesome!! I was so proud that Kady went with her instincts and was able to see that she can reveal more magic without remembering. I can’t wait to see who’ll be the all powerful and release the Prophecy of Light. I rated 5 out of 5 stars.

Me as a character in this book, I’m Master Yaritza the Healer. Super cool!

ARC Release July 26, 2019: The Seduction Expert by Saya Lopez Ortega

Goodreads Blurb

She’s the seduction expert.

Women contact her to take over their love lives. She steps in when they’re lost, she’s supposed to succeed where they failed. She handles their single status, their relationships, their breakups, and very often their partners’ affairs. Her job is a life priority, she spends most of her time at the office or between two flights in business class and the fact of having a sports car that can reach one hundred kilometers in less than six seconds often make her feel like a superheroine in service to women.

Anyway, take her card.

You’ll see, it’s much better than spending holidays in St Barts.

My Review

A bad-ass seduction expert that knows exactly how to make men pay for their infidelities. She likes to be called the Baroness. The name says it all. She is smart, rich, money hungry, powerful, hate’s men and knows all the tricks of the trade. I love her because she supports women equality and fairness, but I just can’t stand her. She is money hungry, everything is all about her and she plays with people’s feelings. To my surprise everyone caterers to her anyway. I loved that she runs right into someone who is exactly like her. Will the Baroness win? The Devil Wears Prada got nothing on her. What was a shock to me was that the Baroness hates men very much and has never fallen in love. She’s in a relationship only to have a higher status in the elite. Love isn’t in her cards just money. This was really a quick fun read. You will either love the Baroness or you will think she is a bully with no compassion. I can’t wait to see what will happened in the next book. I rated 4 out of 5 stars.

ARC Release October 2019: River by Elisha Cooper

Goodreads Blurb

A breathtaking adventure as a traveler and her canoe begin their trek down the Hudson River. In a mountain lake, the canoe gently enters the water’s edge, paddling toward the river. The nautical journey begins.

She is alone, far from home.
Three hundred miles stretch in front of her.
A faraway destination, a wild plan. And the question: can she do this?

In Cooper’s flowing prose and stunning watercolor scenes, readers can follow along the trek as the woman and her canoe explore the wildlife, flora and fauna, and urban landscape at the river’s edge. Through perilous weather and river rushes, the canoe and her captain survive and maneuver their way down the river back home.

River is an outstanding introduction to seeing the world through the eyes of a young explorer and a great picture book for the STEAM curriculum.

Maps and information about the Hudson River and famous landmarks are included in the back of the book.

My Review

Have you ever imagined traveling alone on the Hudson River on a canoe with an adventure awaiting you? A trek through the Hudson River by a single person on a canoe isn’t an easy task. The story has a lady traveling on a canoe from one end of the river to another. The illustrations beautifully depict her adventure and dangers that she finds as she travels. The details are very detailed making you feel like you’re the traveler. What was lacking about the book was that it didn’t tell you all the towns she was traveling as you read. Being able to know the exact locations, will have readers wanting to go to that exact spot to see the beautiful landmarks. At the end of the book they have notes that tell you about areas and the history of the Hudson river. The book also includes a map with all the stops that were in the trek. I believe the story is long and children might have a hard time keeping interest. Someone who loves the great outdoors would love this book and might decide to take an adventure through the Hudson River. This is a great book for any age group. I rated 3 out of 5 stars.

Trapped (Prophecy of light #1) by R.J. Crayton

Goodreads Blurb

Kady can’t remember a time in her life when she wasn’t hiding. From someone or something, but she’s never been sure the cause of the secrecy. Auntie, her only companion and the only person she trusts, says that words have power, and she can’t tell Kady what they are hiding from. Only that the two of them must stick together and stay under the radar.

When Kady awakens in the middle of the night with her house crumbling around her, Auntie hustles her into the night and tries to protect her — through words, magic words.

While Auntie succeeds in hiding Kady, she falls victim to the mage who has been searching for them the past 10 years. Kady knows that she must find her aunt and save her. But will she be able to tap the power trapped within her to do it?

This is part one of a four-part series. Kady’s story continues in subsequent books.

My Review

This is such a great fantasy series. I loved all the magic, fights and mystery. I can’t wait to read the continuation of the story and see if Kady get her powers back. The evil mage will pay for all the turmoil he has caused Kady. I’m excited because I am one of the characters in the next couple books for this series. I am a healer. Let the light shine bright in good and not evil . I rated 5 out of 5 stars.
