An inspiring, lyrical story, rooted in Lennon’s life and work, Love the Earth is filled with beautiful illustrations that bring the faraway world closer to young children. The book includes words to a special poem written by Julian Lennon, specifically for Love the Earth.

My Review

The perfect book to be released on Earth Day. I loved it because it is interactive. It tells the kids to press the imaginary button to turn a feather to a plane, sail or land. It tells them to tilt upwards as if they were taking off. The images are superb and I love the cover. Julian wrote a beautiful poem at the end of the book. It is a perfect book to teach children that they can be part of saving Earth and all the wonderful creations we have. All we need to do is be willing to help our wildlife, recycle, join in community cleanups and plant trees and flowers. It was very thoughtful of Julian to include the young girls who cannot go to school or not allowed to and together with the children they created a safe school for them in the book. It was truly touching. It was wonderful to hear about what the meaning of a feather is to Julian and how he created The White Feather Foundation http://www.whitefeatherfoundation.com. He creates it “to give a voice and support to those who have not been able to be heard”. I was happy I was able to meet Julian. This book is highly recommend. It is a three book series. I rated 5 out of 5 stars.

Our House by Louise Candlish

Goodreads Blurb

When Fiona Lawson comes home to find strangers moving into her house, she’s sure there’s been a mistake. She and her estranged husband, Bram, have a modern co-parenting arrangement: bird’s nest custody, where each parent spends a few nights a week with their two sons at the prized family home to maintain stability for their children. But the system built to protect their family ends up putting them in terrible jeopardy. In a domino effect of crimes and misdemeanors, the nest comes tumbling down.

Now Bram has disappeared and so have Fiona’s children. As events spiral well beyond her control, Fiona will discover just how many lies her husband was weaving and how little they truly knew each other. But Bram’s not the only one with things to hide, and some secrets are best kept to oneself, safe as houses.

My Review

Imagine arriving to your home to only find out it isn’t yours anymore and someone is moving in. Well that is the surprise of a lifetime that Fiona encounters. Deceit, desperation, guilt and fear left Bram with no way out due to his road rage that caused a car accident. Bram’s character was very weak. Anyone could manipulate him, his fear of having to go to jail for his acts had him frighten. His father’s past seems to follow him in the present. He has followed in his father’s footsteps. Fiona was also another character that had weaknesses, but at the end she was able to do an act incapable of doing if it was the beginning of the story. Heartbreak and deceit can truly push your buttons. When I read the first chapter I was shocked and confused like Fiona. Then the book is told like a documentary. She would tell her piece while Bram would be speaking through word documents. Life can truly change in the snap of a finger. It can be for the good or for the bad. Decisions you make today sometimes cannot be changed. I rated 4 out of 5 stars.

In Her Bones by Kate Moretti

Goodreads Blurb

Fifteen years ago, Lilith Wade was arrested for the brutal murder of six women. After a death row conviction, media frenzy, and the release of an unauthorized biography, her thirty-year-old daughter Edie Beckett is just trying to survive out of the spotlight. She’s a recovering alcoholic with a dead-end city job and an unhealthy codependent relationship with her brother.

Edie also has a disturbing secret: a growing obsession with the families of Lilith’s victims. She’s desperate to see how they’ve managed—or failed—to move on. While her escalating fixation is a problem, she’s careful to keep her distance. That is, until she crosses a line and a man is found murdered.

Edie quickly becomes the prime suspect—and while she can’t remember everything that happened the night of the murder, she’d surely remember killing someone. With the detective who arrested her mother hot on her trail, Edie goes into hiding. She’s must get to the truth of what happened that night before the police—or the real killer—find her.

Unless, of course, she has more in common with her mother than she’s willing to admit…

My Review

A thrilling story filled with twist and turns. Can the actions of your parents lead you to the same path they took? Edie is the daughter of a serial killer. She runs obsesses with the surviving children of the victims her mom killed. Can daughter turn out to be just like mother? Of course Edie doesn’t call her mom, but Lillith Wade is how she calls her throughout the book. I think calling her by her name and not her mother she can feel like a victim and not part of her family. Moretti brought us a book which tells us a serial killers story through the voice of her daughter. You get to see how obsessed she has become and how she has some of her mother’s tendency. The story had some great characters. At time I felt it was lacking the thrill and suspense when reading a thriller. The ending wasn’t so impacting. Overall, we had a story with a messed up family with psychological issues that made them obsessed with the people who surrounded them, having them commit crimes to keep their family ties. I rated 4 out of 5 stars.

We Must Be Brave by Frances Liardet

Goodreads Blurb

Spanning the sweep of the twentieth century, We Must Be Braveexplores the fierce love that we feel for our children and the power of that love to endure. Beyond distance, beyond time, beyond life itself.

“This stirring debut will work its way indelibly into your heart.” –Georgia Hunter, author of We Were the Lucky Ones

One woman. One little girl. The war that changed everything.

December 1940. In the disorderly evacuation of Southampton, England, newly married Ellen Parr finds a small child asleep on the backseat of an empty bus. No one knows who little Pamela is.

Ellen professed not to want children with her older husband, and when she takes Pamela into her home and rapidly into her heart, she discovers that this is true: Ellen doesn’t want children. She wants only Pamela. Three golden years pass as the Second World War rages on. Then one day Pamela is taken away, screaming. Ellen is no stranger to sorrow, but when she returns to the quiet village life she’s long lived, she finds herself asking: In a world changed by war, is it fair to wish for an unchanged heart?

In the spirit of We Were the Lucky Ones and The Nightingale, here is a novel about courage and kindness, hardship and friendship, and the astonishing power of love.

My Review

Love for a child is endless even if they are not your child. Ellen had found a small child that was left in a bus. The little girl was Pamela who had thought her mother was in the bus that had left. Ellen took her in and took good care of Pamela. Pamela lost her mother a few days later. Ellen took care of Pam knowing very well that her aunt or father might come to claim her. After a few years having adventures with Ellen, her father went in search for his daughter. Pamela had to leave England to stay in Ireland with his sister’s family. The moment when they had to part was the hardest on both of them. Both of their hearts broke for many years. Some years later, Ellen saves another child named Penny. Ellen was so hurt with having to lose Pam that she didn’t want to have another close relationship with another child. Ellen finally saw that Penny needed a friend, caretaker and someone to guide her in life. Many years later Pamela and Ellen reunite and catch up. The bond created between Ellen, Pamela and Penny was strong. After everything they all went through they were able to find forgiveness, love and happiness.

The story was a little slow in some parts. But overall, the story was very good. You can relate with each character and learn to love each one of them. They all had a story to tell. They all had suffered during the war. I rated 3 out of 5 stars.

The Line Between by Tosca Lee

Goodreads Blurb

When Wynter Roth is turned out of New Earth, a self-contained doomsday cult on the American prairie, she emerges into a world poised on the brink of madness as a mysterious outbreak of rapid early onset dementia spreads across the nation.

As Wynter struggles to start over in a world she’s been taught to regard as evil, she finds herself face-to-face with the apocalypse she’s feared all her life—until the night her sister shows up at her doorstep with a set of medical samples. That night, Wynter learns there’s something far more sinister at play and that these samples are key to understanding the disease.

Now, as the power grid fails and the nation descends into chaos, Wynter must find a way to get the samples to a lab in Colorado. Uncertain who to trust, she takes up with former military man Chase Miller, who has his own reasons for wanting to get close to the samples in her possession, and to Wynter herself.

Filled with action, conspiracy, romance, and questions of whom—and what—to believe, THE LINE BETWEEN is a high-octane story of survival and love in a world on the brink of madness.

My Review

This was a total home run for me. What an absolutely engaging, thrilling and terrorizing novel. I couldn’t put this book down. We all fear doomsday might just be around the corner, now imagine you being part of a cult that tells you the end is near and then you become an outcast from that environment. To then have to experience the apocalypse while saving the world and your family. Wynter was that bad-ass character we all wish we could be. She had to see for herself that Magnus wasn’t the prophet she thought he was. I feared each moment Wynter went through this novel. Survival mode truly is instincts. Tosca is a wonderful storyteller with an avid imagination. The plot in this novel was superb. She brought us a book for us all to fear the possibility of an apocalypse due to an ancient disease. Life will bring you roadblocks but fighting to survive will make you stronger. This novel made you feel the terror, desperation and will to survive from the very beginning. This is truly the best thriller for 2019. I rated 5 out of 5 stars.

Walking Shadows by Faye Kellerman

Detective Peter Decker and his wife, Rina Lazarus, risk life and limb to solve a pair of brutal murders that may be tied to a crime from more than twenty years ago in this intense and addictive mystery from New York Times bestselling author Faye Kellerman.

On a quiet suburban street in upstate Greenbury, New York, the brutally beaten body of a young man is discovered in the woods adjacent to an empty vacation home. Twenty-six-year-old Brady Neil a resident of the neighboring town of Hamilton, had no criminal record, few friends, worked full-time, and attended community college. But as Detective Peter Decker learns, the clean-cut kid is linked to the criminal world. When Brady was a baby, his father, Brandon Gratz, was convicted of robbing and killing the owners of a local jewelry store. While Gratz and his partner, Kyle Masterson, admitted to the robbery, they swore they left the owners, Glen and Lydia Levine, very much alive.

The experienced detective knows there’s more to this homicide case than the records show. As he digs into Gratz’s past, Decker begins to suspect that the son’s murder may be connected to the father’s sins. Before he can put together the pieces, Decker finds out that one of Brady Neil’s friends, Joseph Boch—aka Boxer—has gone missing. Heading to Boch’s house with his temporary new partner, Hamilton PD cop Lenora Baccus, they discover a bloodbath.

Who would savagely kill two innocent men—and why? Finding the answers will require all of Decker’s skill and knowledge, the help of his fellow Greenbury detectives, Tyler McAdams and Kevin Butterfield, and information gleaned from his wife Rina’s behind the scenes investigation to put all the pieces of this deadly puzzle together . . . and see justice done.

My Review

Mind-raveling, thrilling and suspenseful murder mystery. Kellerman did a superb job of creating a story which reopens a twenty year old murder. Linking two stories was brilliant. I was the whole time trying to figure out who the murderer was, where is the missing person, who is the thief, who are the dirty cops and all the conspiracy theories. Decker is a wonderful detective. He truly thinks outside the box and won’t quit until he solves the murders. He does brilliant work and I enjoy his time with his wife and his colleagues. I love the behind the scene life of Decker, you get to experience the real life of a detective. Kellerman knows how to tell a story filled with mystery, thrill and suspense. A captivating story that will make you want to read more books from Kellerman. I rated 4 out of 5 stars.

Now, more than fifteen years later, their lives are drastically different—and Chloe is married to Adam. When he’s murdered by an intruder at the couple’s East Hampton beach house, Chloe reluctantly allows her teenaged stepson’s biological mother—her estranged sister, Nicky—back into her life. The Dinner List by Rebecca Serle

Goodreads Blurb

We’ve been waiting for an hour. That’s what Audrey says. She states it with a little bit of an edge, her words just bordering on cursive. That’s the thing I think first. Not: Audrey Hepburn is at my birthday dinner, but Audrey Hepburn is annoyed.

At one point or another, we’ve all been asked to name five people, living or dead, with whom we’d like to have dinner. Why do we choose the people we do? And what if that dinner was to actually happen? These are the questions Rebecca Serle contends within her utterly captivating novel, The Dinner List, a story imbued with the same delightful magical realism as One Day,and the life-changing romance of Me Before You.

When Sabrina arrives at her thirtieth birthday dinner she finds at the table not just her best friend, but also three significant people from her past, and well, Audrey Hepburn. As the appetizers are served, wine poured, and dinner table conversation begins, it becomes clear that there’s a reason these six people have been gathered together.

Delicious but never indulgent, sweet with just the right amount of bitter, The Dinner List is a romance for our times. Bon appetit.

My Review

A unique novel full of love, heartbreak and forgiveness. Imagine being able to meet loved ones dead or alive and spend time with them one last time. Sometimes we dread to accept our failures and hurt, that we live with regrets. Life can be gone in an instant and you might not have been able to forgive, love, accept and move on. My mind was raveled with Sabrina and Tobias love story. It was an unforgettable love story that had many spins and turns. As I read I could imagine them both happy together, but destiny sometimes has is own story to tell. Rebecca truly gave us a book that makes us think of our current life’s and that we should love to the fullest and remind our self to be happy. I loved how the story was told through the past in conjunction with the dinner. The concept was thought very well and it truly was an unforgettable love story to hopefully become a movie in the future. I rated 5 out of 5 stars.
