When I met John Stamos at His Book Tour

I got to meet John Stamos last October at Books & Greetings in NJ, when he was doing his book tour for If You Would Have Told Me: A Memoir.

Goodreads Blurb

If you would have told a young John Stamos flipping burgers at his dad’s fast-food joint that one day he’d be a household name and that, at the height of his success, he’d be living alone, divorced, with no kids, high on a cocktail of forgetting, he might’ve asked, “You want fries with that?”

John burst onto the scene in General Hospital, propelling him into the teen idol stratosphere, a place that’s often a point of no return. But Stamos beat the odds and over the past four decades has proved himself to be one of his generation’s most successful and beloved actors. Whether showing off his comedic chops on Full House or his dramatic skills on ER, pushing the boundaries on Broadway or living out his youthful dreams as an honorary Beach Boy, John has surprised everyone, most of all himself.

A universal story about friendship, love, loss, and the courage to embrace love once more, John Stamos’s memoir is filled with some of the most memorable names in Hollywood, both old and new. Funny, deeply poignant, and brutally honest, If You Would Have Told Me is a portrait of a boy who went from believing in Disney magic to a man who learns that we have to create our own magical moments in life.

Author Biography

John Stamos is an American actor and musician.

Anna Williams-Bonner has taken care of business—that is to say, she’s taken care of her husband, bestselling novelist Jacob Finch Bonner, and laid to rest those anonymous accusations of plagiarism that so tormented him. Now she is living the contented life of a literary widow, enjoying her husband’s royalty checks in perpetuity, but for the second time in her life, a work of fiction intercedes, and this time it’s her own debut novel, The Afterword. After all, how hard can it really be to write a universally lauded bestseller?

But when Anna publishes her book and indulges in her own literary acclaim, she begins to receive excerpts of a novel she never expected to see again, a novel that should no longer exist. Something has gone wrong, and someone out there knows far too much: about her late brother, her late husband, and just possibly… about Anna herself. What does this person want, and what are they prepared to do? She has come too far, and worked too hard, to lose what she values most: the sole and uncontested right to her own story—and she is, by any standard, a master storyteller.

Review: Persecution by Elizabeth Montgomery

Goodreads Blurb

They were exiled from their clan. Made to leave the only home they ever knew. They knew the curse would kill them if they didn’t leave. Isaac erased her memories to give her a better life. SHE HAS TO COME BACK. SHE IS THE CHOSEN ONE. Only Cecily can defeat the hunters. Isaac swore his heart to protect her. Julian swore his life to protect her. But in the end will it be Isaac and Julian that needs saving?

My Review: Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Awesome Paranormal with a kick of Romance. Really enjoyed the way this story started. I was heartbroken to see Isaac so sad since he had to protect Cecily while having to lose her at the same time. It takes great courage to do what Isaac did to his soul mate. I loved the action in this book. I love it when the girl is the main character and gets to kick some bad guys butts. As you read, you go through so much emotion from love, hate, betrayal, defense, and protection. I could only imagine how hot Isaac really is. I could run into his chest anytime he wanted, lol. It’s a very short book with another book in continuation. Cecily is the only one left from the Dyphillum left that is able to breed. Another clan is trying to capture her in order to mix breeds, I guess, for ultimate power.

Current Read: How The Rose Got Its Thorns & Other Botanical Stories by Dr. Andrew Ormerod

How The Rose Got its Thorns reveals the inner workings of our favorite flowers and trees. Designed to help gardeners, both novice and experienced, better understand how plants grow, the book is easy to navigate – it is divided into 50 chapters, each one a story.

Accompanied by specially commissioned color illustrations, each chapter explains the science behind how plants work and the extraordinary processes they have such as protecting themselves from predators using chemicals; attracting pollinators using scent, shape and color; growing in low or high temperatures; their relationship with the wind; the size and pattern of their leaves; the distribution of their seeds and survival strategies; their relationship with insects; how they allocate their resources; and how they retain water efficiently.

This delightful and intriguing book offers readers an accessible way to better understand how our plants evolved into the species of today.

Review: Arthur’s Tooth by Marc Brown

Goodreads Blurb

Arthur’s whole class has started losing their teeth-but not Arthur. His loose tooth wiggles but won’t come out. Everyone seems to think they have the best solution. But none of their ideas work! Will he be stuck with his tooth forever?

My Review: Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Great book to teach children about them losing their teeth. Arthur still had all his baby teeth while his classmates had lost them all. He was getting teased all day and wasn’t being accepted in their games. In the end, his situation was solved. By the number one teaser.

Author Biography

Marc Tolon Brown is perhaps best known for his series of children’s books about Arthur the aardvark, which was turned into an animated television show on PBS. Brown is a three-time Emmy Award winner, for his role on the television show inspired by his books.

He lives on Martha’s Vineyard and in New York City with his wife, Laurie Krasny Brown. He has three children, sons Tolon and Tucker, and daughter Eliza. The names of his two sons have been hidden in all of the Arthur books except for one: Arthur’s Tooth.

Review: What Pet Should I Get? By Dr. Seuss

Goodreads Blurb

A never-before-seen picture book by Dr. Seuss!   This never-ever-before-seen picture book by Dr. Seuss about making up one’s mind is the literary equivalent of buried treasure! What happens when a brother and sister visit a pet store to pick a pet? Naturally, they can’t choose just one! The tale captures a classic childhood moment-choosing a pet-and uses it to illuminate a life lesson: that it is hard to make up your mind, but sometimes you just have to do it!   Told in Dr. Seuss’s signature rhyming style, this is a must-have for Seuss fans and book collectors, and a perfect choice for the holidays, birthdays, and happy occasions of all kinds.   An Editor’s Note at the end discusses Dr. Seuss’s pets, his creative process, and the discovery of the manuscript and illustrations for What Pet Should I Get?

My Review: Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I was so happy when I found out Dr. Seuss left us one more gift. It is an amazing cute book about pets who he loved tremendously. I am very happy with the outcome of the images that were partly created by the book publisher since they had no idea what colors Dr. Seuss would have wanted. I am very glad that after over 50 years of being created, it was decided that this story needed to be shared with the whole world. I highly recommend you don’t miss out on this book. Loved how they included a little biography about Dr.Seuss and how this book came about. Loved the ending because it left the reading thinking about what pet the kids picked and what the reader would pick for themselves.

Author Biography

Theodor Seuss Geisel was born 2 March 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He graduated Dartmouth College in 1925, and proceeded on to Oxford University with the intent of acquiring a doctorate in literature. At Oxford he met Helen Palmer, who he wed in 1927. He returned from Europe in 1927, and began working for a magazine called Judge, the leading humor magazine in America at the time, submitting both cartoons and humorous articles for them. Additionally, he was submitting cartoons to Life, Vanity Fair and Liberty. In some of his works, he’d made reference to an insecticide called Flit. These references gained notice, and led to a contract to draw comic ads for Flit. This association lasted 17 years, gained him national exposure, and coined the catchphrase “Quick, Henry, the Flit!”

In 1936 on the way to a vacation in Europe, listening to the rhythm of the ship’s engines, he came up with And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, which was then promptly rejected by the first 43 publishers he showed it to. Eventually in 1937 a friend published the book for him, and it went on to at least moderate success.

During World War II, Geisel joined the army and was sent to Hollywood. Captain Geisel would write for Frank Capra’s Signal Corps Unit (for which he won the Legion of Merit) and do documentaries (he won Oscar’s for Hitler Lives and Design for Death). He also created a cartoon called Gerald McBoing-Boing which also won him an Oscar.

In May of 1954, Life published a report concerning illiteracy among school children. The report said, among other things, that children were having trouble to read because their books were boring. This inspired Geisel’s publisher, and prompted him to send Geisel a list of 400 words he felt were important, asked him to cut the list to 250 words (the publishers idea of how many words at one time a first grader could absorb), and write a book. Nine months later, Geisel, using 220 of the words given to him published The Cat in the Hat , which went on to instant success.

In 1960 Bennett Cerf bet Geisel $50 that he couldn’t write an entire book using only fifty words. The result was Green Eggs and Ham . Cerf never paid the $50 from the bet.

Helen Palmer Geisel died in 1967. Theodor Geisel married Audrey Stone Diamond in 1968. Theodor Seuss Geisel died 24 September 1991.
