Review: Super Late Bloomer by Julia Kaye

Goodreads Blurb

A highly personal collection documenting the early months of artist Julia Kaye’s gender transition.

Instead of a traditional written diary, Julia Kaye has always turned to art as a means of self-reflection. So when she began her gender transition in 2016, she decided to use her popular webcomic, Up and Out, to process her journey and help others with similar struggles realize they weren’t alone.

Julia’s poignant, relatable comics honestly depict her personal ups and downs while dealing with the various issues involved in transitioning—from struggling with self-acceptance and challenging societal expectations, to moments of self-love and joy. Super Late Bloomer both educates and inspires, as Julia faces her difficulties head-on and commits to being wholly, authentically who she was always meant to be

My Review: Rated 4 out of 5 stars

It is a powerful comic that lets us experience all Julia went through with her gender transition throughout a year. This comic collection gives you first-hand account of how a transgender view themselves, struggle, and worry, but through it all, they stand strong and help others see they can. You see the happy moments and the sad moments that can bring you down. Julia is a strong woman who stands tall and does what makes her happy. Thank you for sharing your story, and please continue to share it.

Review: Best Wishes, Warmest Regards: The Story of Schitt’s Creek by Daniel Levy and Eugene Levy

Goodreads Blurb

The official tie-in book for the beloved, nine-time Emmy® Award-winning series Schitt’s Creek.

This beautifully produced, keepsake coffee-table book is the ultimate celebration of the series, the town, the characters, and the state of mind that is Schitt’s Creek. Capturing the essence and alchemy of all six seasons of what is now considered to be one of the most groundbreaking comedy television series of the last decade, Best Wishes, Warmest Regards is a gift to fans everywhere who have made the show their own.

Included are character profiles from the cast of Johnny, Moira, David, and Alexis, and all of the characters that populate the town, major moments from Moira’s endorsement of Herb Ertlinger Winery, to Patrick and David’s first kiss, to Cabaret and the Rose Family Christmas episode. Also included are special features, such as the complete, illustrated catalogs of David’s knits and Moira’s wigs, Moira’s vocabulary, Alexis’s adventures, and behind-the-scenes moments from Dan and Eugene Levy and the cast of Schitt’s Creek.

My Review: Rated 5 out of 5 stars

It’s a fantastic movie tie-in for one of the best and funniest series ever made. I watched the series for the first time last year. I had this book since it was released, but I wanted to read it after I saw the series. This book is perfect for the fans of this show. It includes every season and episode details. I enjoyed seeing all the outfits of Moira and David, plus Moira’s epic wigs. The fashion and wig options for the characters made this series unforgettable. It’s those outfits that will take me back to a part of the series I enjoyed and will never forget. I loved that David Rose found his happily ever after. They were a family who lived lavishly and were not very connected, and having lost everything brought them together. Moving to a small town they weren’t fond of showed how the characters worked on their family connection and built a tight-knit community. I also enjoyed all the fan art included throughout the book. I love the images and getting a backstage entrance to a community filled with love.

(Mackenzie Country, #4)
Publication date: November 21, 2024
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, LGBTQ+, Romance

Synopsis:

One thing I know about Terry O’Connor—the man has complicated relationship written all over him, something I’ve avoided for pretty much forever.

One thing I know about Terry’s hometown, Painted Bay—it’s a long, long way from my life as a Mackenzie Country vet and dedicated, carefree bachelor.

All in all, good news.

No reason to look twice at the gorgeous man currently staying at Miller Station with his daughter.

No reason to daydream about his soft lips, quirky sense of humour, sexy smile, or the way he blushes whenever he catches me staring which is far too often.

No reason to second guess my future plans or reconsider the no-strings lifestyle I’ve worked hard to perfect.

And absolutely no reason to feel disappointed that Terry is even less interested in a relationship than I am. I should be relieved.

Then why can’t I stop thinking about him and how right it feels when we’re together? Why does my heart spin at the very mention of his name? And why does the thought of moving on without Terry and his daughter in my life feel like the loneliest decision in the world.

Review: Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell

Goodreads Blurb

Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends.

Every autumn, all through high school, they’ve worked together at the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world. (Not many people know that the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world is in Omaha, Nebraska, but it definitely is.) They say good-bye every Halloween, and they’re reunited every September 1.

But this Halloween is different—Josiah and Deja are finally seniors, and this is their last season at the pumpkin patch. Their last shift together. Their last good-bye.

Josiah’s ready to spend the whole night feeling melancholy about it. Deja isn’t ready to let him. She’s got a plan: What if—instead of moping and the usual slinging lima beans down at the Succotash Hut—they went out with a bang? They could see all the sights! Taste all the snacks! And Josiah could finally talk to that cute girl he’s been mooning over for three years . . .

What if their last shift was an adventure?

My Review: Rated 4 Out of 5 Stars

If you need some cheering up with some added pumpkin spice, then look no further. This YA graphic novel brings you to the most amazing pumpkin patch you could ever imagine. The adventure Deja and Josie has will leave you craving all those delicious treats only available in the autumn season. Deja and Josie are such fabulous friends. They are both so upset that this will be their last year working at the patch since they’re going to college. Josie has had a crush on the fudge girl Marcy for three years. Deja decides they need to check out all the stops at the patch, have fun, eat delicious treats, and have Josie talk to Marcy for once. His love at first sight truly ends with unexpected reality. Love most times is right under your nose. You just need to see the signs and connect the dots. The illustrations really brought this beautiful pumpkin patch come to life.
